Books That Don't Suck!!!

My old English teacher used to try and convince me that reading was great. True enough, it is - but reading "Ethan $£%!!!ing Frome" is likely to put people off for life. Fortunately I managed to survive this traumatic experience and I am now reading good quality material, such as these:

Stephen King - Carrie

My favourite book written by Mr King, although I do prefer some of the short stories he wrote under the alias of Richard Bachman. I seem to remember it got made into a rather good film that was released in the late '70s. Not too heavy going for a King novel either!

Chuck Palahniuk - Fight Club

My favourite film of all time also happens to be one of my favourite books of all time. It won't take you too long to finish it either as it just about fills 200 pages. I think that this quote from the back cover just about sums it all up:

'Palahniuk's apocalyptic first novel is not for the faint of heart... Caustic, outrageous, bleakly funny, violent and always unsettling, [his] utterly original creation will make even the most jaded reader sit up and take notice'

Ian Collins - I Bet You Won't Read This

If you have never heard of Mr Collins then it's about time you tuned into TalkSport between 1 and 5am Monday - Thursday (If you don't live in the UK then you can always listen to the show via the internet at www.talksport.net ) I've listened to the guy for over 4 years now and he's simply the best. This book (available thru mail order only at www.theradiobook.com ) gave me more information about getting into radio than my whole year doing media at college!!! A fanastic accompniment to the show.

PS - It is down to this man that everyone is now using the phrase - 'You Muppet'!

Lloyd Kaufman - All I Need To Know About Filmmaking I Learned From The Toxic Avenger

If you have never heard of Troma Studios then you simply haven't seen film making at it's very lowest and best! Further information about Troma will arrive at this site sometime in the future, but until then check out their website at www.tromaville.com. This book is basically Mr Kaufman's autobiography. If biogs aren't your thing don't fret! There is also loads of other information here, from stuntman disasters to South Park!

J. Piven & D. Borgenicht - The Worst-Case Scenario Survival Handbook

I found this whilst browsing through Amazon.co.uk. It is a step by step guide showing you what to do in the event of various disasters. This is one hell of a bizzare book. Don't believe me? Then check out these chapters:
* How To Break Down a Door
* How To Identify A Bomb
* How To Perform A Fast 180-Degree Turn With Your Car - etc...
